Oxley Local Area Command Acting Superintendent, Jeff Budd, said his officers would continue to target and dismantle organised crime groups until they were “eradicated” from the local community.
“We are targeting OMCG members, associates and convicted criminals who have firearms prohibition orders issued (against them),” he said.
“These orders mean they are to have absolutely no contact with any firearm paraphernalia or any ammunition; anything related to a firearm. Part of the prohibition order is these people are recognised as a criminal element who have, or may have had, access to a firearm in the past, or may have access to a firearm in the future.”
He said police operations at homes in Tamworth, Moonbi and Gunnedah were not the end of their investigation.
“We know, and history proves, that OMCG are not in our community for the purpose of anything other than property theft, drug sales and badness,” Superintendent Budd said.
“We intend to fully keep our foot to the throat of these gangs and eradicate them from our community.
“Nothing good comes from these gangs, they are not called Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs for nothing, it is in their charter to make money through illegal means and it is in our charter to stop them.”
“If anyone thinks for a second that Oxley Command is going to back away from Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs, or take our eye off the ball, they are mistaken.”
Superintendent Budd said police were aware an Outlaw Motorcycle Gang was attempting to establish itself in the Tamworth community, but he would not be drawn on who it was.
“We are aware that these gangs are always present in our community and believe a particular group is establishing itself here now,” he said.
“It is unrelenting action that we have shown before, when we have shut down multiple clubhouses in this command previously with the assistance of Strike Force Raptor. It is our intent to continue to protect our community and reduce the influx of illicit drugs and poison in our community. This is what we do.”
