Attracting 82 competitors from all around the country, the field was strong. Riding his own horse SP Docs Miss Drive, Byrne, who drew in the fourth out of six herds, was placed second with a combined score of 221 between three judges.
In first place was Oakey professional trainer and $2 million dollar NCHA earner Todd Graham aboard Spins Gypsy Queen, with the pair achieving a satisfying score of 224 for owner Yulgilbar Quarter Horse Stud.
The first go round of the Yulgilbar & Mavericks Western Wear Snafflebit Futurity showed 44 three year olds with Loomberah’s Wyatt Young leading the charge on Willdraft Fancy Rey with 220.
In the $15,000 Non Pro Snafflebit. Andrew Wrigley of Condobolin came out as the very last draw of the event and blitzed the field of 35 horses with a 223 on his chestnut mare GB Mrs Gump.
The Finals continue through to Wednesday.
