The familiar sight of the green and white Howard’s bus greeted us in the car park of the Sports Dome on Wednesday night.

Howard’s Bus and Charter have been transporting Quirindi teams to the secondary comp for several years helping to make it easier for Quirindi High students to compete in Tamworth.
This sort of commitment makes it possible for us to experience the talent that one of the five Quirindi teams displayed when they played the Calrossy Gryphons this week.
Quirindi hit the ground running and soon led the Gryphons, even with the Calrossy team’s starting 3-pointer to No 6 Thomas Harris.
The away team held the lead until eight minutes in when the home team’s shots started finding the basket almost evening the score at 9-10.
Quirindi retaliated and barely let Calrossy near their own end and the score climbed 23-38 at half time.
No 12 Tyler Thistle from Quirindi started a magic half for himself with a three pointer.
It wasn’t long before he was setting up a tricky shot for No 9 Ethan Curmy to sink a two and then followed with back-to-back two pointers of his own.
The second half was fast, both teams showed a strong passing game and Court 4 nearly had a track worn it with the amount of movement between each basket.
There was no chance on picking a winner too early as the scoreboard was constantly changing with both teams taking every advantage that they could to add points.
No 32 Izaac Enks-Lalor from Calrossy found himself boxed in at his key, but somehow was able to sneak the ball out for a well-earned two.
No 6 Harris helped himself to another three and it looked like the Gryphons may emerge Phoenix-like to snatch victory from Quirindi.
This was no to be as Quirindi fought back and ended the game with a 10 point lead 53-63.
Mention must be made of the hairstyles being sported by the Calrossy team.
The monk-do, the blunt-razor-do and the really-can’t-describe-it-do did raise eyebrows.
They also raised money with these brave young men fronting the public with these not-so flattering hairdos for the World’s Greatest Shave. Well done Calrossy Gryphons.
