Wybong-based Smith came to the fore from the get-go as Lord Ellis broke his maiden status in the Race Caller Appreciation Maiden (402m).
Lord Ellis had been minor-placed in one of his previous five career starts, but made very post a winner from box three in a handy 23.97 second run.
Smith completed the brace when hotpot Rival Houdini made light work of the Sauer’s Glass Appreciation Grade 4/5 Stakes (457m).
He may be in the veteran class these days, but the son of Spring Gun oozed class as he strolled home by 4 ¾ lengths in a time of 26.68.
Certainly the bookmaker did not take too many chances with Rival Houdini, who started the $1.67 favourite.
Poppy’s Snookie lived up to the billing as one of the better bets in the JC Painting Appreciation Grade 4/5 Stakes (340m).
The Ken Bell-trained speedster rattled home in 20.16 for those punters more than happy to take the $2.25 and slightly better on offer.
Success was predominantly shared across the solid nine-race Non-TAB program, with eight different trainers leading in winners.
Smart customer Mulwee Plaza (Ranald Dawes, Murrurundi), Cullinan Raider (Lloyd Metcalf, Moonbi), Grumpy Luppy (Peter Midson, Werris Creek), Tralee Maz (Melanie Mabbott, Duri), Cherry Valley (Daniel Eveleigh, Singleton) and Tangles Valley (Ben Spence, West Tamworth) also landed race victories.
