The Thunderbolts made it two wins from as many starts this season with an emphatic 89-57 road success against Coffs Harbour.
Tamworth’s players arrived home at 1am on Sunday morning, a trip made all the more shorter courtesy of a fine display according to Ireland.
“At times we were a little patchy, but on the whole it was a very good performance to win by 32 points on the road,” Ireland said.
“Any win away from your home court is important.
“We had 10 guys get on the scoresheet and eight scored seven points or above.
“That highlights the spread of contributors we had.”
The Thunderbolts set the tone in the opening term, leading by 11 points at the first change.
That gap was stretched to 17 by halftime as Tamworth held sway 46-27 and despite being on the road, went on with the job in impressive style during the second-half.
American import Kyle Gupton hit a game-high 19 points, with the evergreen Chris Skilton coming off the bench to contribute 15.
“Kyle nailed three from downtown and was aggressive in taking the ball to the basket, while Skilo gave us some scoring punch from the bench,” Ireland said.
Ireland also praised the defensive contribution of Cody Miller and Armidale youngster Scott McGann again impressed.
Tamworth’s next match is at home to Port Macquarie on Saturday night.
