Figures obtained by The Leader have revealed big-name acts have sent ticket sales across the region soaring and it’s showing no sign of slowing down yet.
As of this month, more than 34,800 tickets had been sold across the city’s three entertainment venues, The Capitol Theatre, TRECC and the Tamworth Town Hall, along with AELEC and smaller venues across the region.
For the same period last year, 30,670 had been issued.
Tamworth entertainment executives have reported the Capitol Theatre has dished out 6580 tickets to date, while TRECC has issued 11,892 for its events.
A further 2200 tickets have already been sold for upcoming events for this year.
While the Tamworth Country Music festival can account for a large proportion of the ticket sales, other big name acts including Icehouse and Pseudo Echo along with The Beach Boys and The Temptations in February, have also boosted sales and put the city on the map as an entertainment hotspot.
Entertainment venues manager, Peter Ross, said the city is on track to exceed last year’s ticket sales figures of 68,444, with 26,000 of those tickets relating to the Capitol Theatre and 15,571 relating to TRECC.
“I believe having venues like TRECC and the Capitol Theatre contribute greatly to the cultural fabric of the city and region,” Mr Ross said.
“Both (of) these venues, and the events and activities held within them, deliver positive social and economic outcomes and the existence of such community assets has and continues to assist in the attraction of new residents, professionals and regional visitation to the city.
“There is no other regional city with an indoor venue like TRECC, that has the capacity to attract large scale concerts (like The Beach Boys, Icehouse, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Alan Jackson, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban) or large conference events, with delegates of 600 plus.”
