I hope this works. It didn’t forty years ago.
I was a President then, of the South Tamworth Public School Parents and Citizens Association.
Anne Brown was Secretary, a particularly vigorous, forthright and enthusiastic lady.
We made an ‘executive decision’ to ban soft, sugary drinks and lollies and introduce fruit, fruit juice and wholemeal bread for sandwiches.
That lasted until the next P&C meeting. The room was packed like never before. One woman came to me just before the meeting started, poked her finger hard into my chest and snarled “Listen you. If my kid wants white bread, he gets white bread. Understand?” (It’s a bit hard to forget such a gentle plea)
It seemed the whole meeting felt the same way, so we had to bow to the majority vote.
I sincerely hope the mood of the citizens has changed somewhat in the intervening forty years.
