Tamworth is drilling down on water use across the region with councillors voting to spend $96,000 on new bore projects.
The next sites to have groundwater systems installed include Manilla Sports Ground, Calala’s Redbank Estate and Coledale’s Centenary Park.
Licenses for bores at Chillingworth Oval and and Rugby Park were also gained.
Tamworth Regional Council water sustainability officer, Ian Lobban, said the ongoing program has been a great success.
“An added bonus is the resulting significant budget savings through the cost of bore water being lower in comparison to drinking water,” he said.
"At the Plain Street Playing Fields where a bore water irrigation system was completed in March last year, 40 megalitres of drinking water is being saved and there is about $50,000 a year in savings on Council’s water bill.”
