One of two sides Tamworth sent over to Port Macquarie, they were on quotients named Plate runners-up after recording a win and a loss from their two games.
The Gleeson’s also picked up a win and a loss, going down to eventual champions Port Jackson Red on the first day before chasing down Mid North Coasts’ 8-212.
Stu Macfarlane (40), Dan Richards (41) and Steve Wilson (40) all retired as Tamworth reached 5-214 in reply after Murray Hartin (3-30) and Steve Newman (2-23) had led the charge with the ball.
The Hazlewood’s defended for their win, which also came against Mid North Coast.
Chris Hogan, with a brisk 44 (ret) off 37 and skipper Richard Rowlings, also with 44 (ret), set the foundation as Tamworth posted 7-202.
They then bowled the Muddies out for 159, Denby Budden topping the wickets with 3-17.
Rowlings said it was a great couple of days.
“We had a ball,” he said.
“The cricket was good and the company was good.”
He said it showed they’ve all still got that competitive streak in them.
“We just haven’t got the ammunition to back it up all the time,” he said.
What he liked about his sides performance was that everyone contributed, Peter Annis-Brown (19), Steve Massey (20), Wally Hammond (23) and Greg Kellett (18) also chipping in with valuable knocks in the win over the Muddies.
