An EPA spokesperson said the spill happened about 5pm on Friday and is believed to be waste water containing starch.
“ The EPA immediately began working with the company and Tamworth Council to ensure the clean-up commenced without delay on Friday,” A statement to The Leader said.
“The spill was contained on Friday with sandbags. A small portion did reach the storm water system as well as the Peel River however, the river was not flowing and the waste water was contained and later removed by Allied Mills.”
The EPA said the clean-up was completed on Saturday afternoon.
“The EPA are investigating the causes of the incident and will provide updated information when our investigation is complete,” The statement said.
