The 16-year-old appeared in Armidale Children’s Court on Wednesday via video link from a juvenile detention centre where he has been held since his arrest by detectives in Armidale on February 9.
Police allege the teenager was unarmed during the attempted robbery on the bike track in Armidale on January 10 but the juvenile is yet to enter a plea.
Flanked by a dozen family members in court, solicitor Nick Forrest lodged a fresh application for bail, which wasn’t opposed by the DPP.
Magistrate Michael Holmes ordered the teenager to live in Armidale with family.
As part of the bail which included more than a dozen conditions, the juvenile is prohibited from contacting his co-accused or taking drugs and alcohol.
He has been ordered to report to police three times a week, remain under a curfew and is not allowed to leave Armidale.
“If you put a foot wrong [on bail], there will be an application before the court to revoke it,” Mr Holmes told him.
“And, stay out of trouble.”
The 16-year-old was arrested in relation to an attempted robbery that occurred at about 5.05pm on January 10 where three juveniles confronted a 34-year-old man walking through parkland in Armidale.
If you put a foot wrong [on bail], there will be an application before the court to revoke it ... and, stay out of trouble.
- Magistrate Michael Holmes
During the incident, one of the offenders was armed with a knife, one was armed with a golf club and a third was unarmed.
Police said the third offender armed with a knife brandished the weapon towards the victim and demanded he hand over his property.
That offender then stabbed the victim once to the left side of his stomach.
The 15-year-old who was allegedly armed with a golf club and struck the man once to the right knee during the robbery also appeared in court before his case was adjourned.
He made no application for bail and remains in juvenile detention
A third co-accused was arrested on Wednesday.
