The 22-year old utility back has been named on the bench for the Western Force for their season opener against the Waratahs at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night.
The match day 23 features a host of new faces with up to eight players set to run out in the Western Force colours for the first time and six men a chance of earning their maiden Super Rugby cap.
Speaking to Western Force TV after signing with the Force, Newsome spoke of his desire to make the match day squad for Round 1.
“I’d love to be in that 23, especially against a lot of the young blokes that I played with over in NSW,” he said.
Big name recruit Tatafu Polota-Nau is also set to make his maiden Force appearance off the bench as he faces his former side for the first time.
Tamworth product Paddy Ryan has meanwhile been named on the Waratahs bench for the clash.
