On Thursday the Fair Work Commission resolved to cut Sunday penalty rates across the retail, hospitality, fast food and pharmacy sectors – and The Leader’s readers were not happy.
In a poll posted to our website on Thursday evening,we asked our readers if they believed Sunday penalty rates should be cut.
The response was overwhelming with 76.24 per cent of voters saying they did not agree with the decision, while 23.76 believed the decision was the right one.
Readers on The Leader’s facebook page also got in on the debate, citing that they would face considerable losses to their pay packets because of the cut.
Local business leaders have labeled the change as a positive one and have predicted more businesses would open on a Sunday, because of the pay decrease.
