Two winners will be chosen to represent the zone at state level at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, up against winners from the six other zones across NSW.
The finalists will have interviews during the day on Saturday, then will attend a dinner where they will have more talks and interaction with the judges.
Event co-ordinator Di Kelly, who is the Walgett Show Society showgirl co-ordinator, said it was very exciting to have people from across the zone converging on town of less than 2300.
She said the dinner at Walgett District Sporting Club had 200 bookings.
“It’s really, really great. This is a tremendous thing for Walgett: our three motels are full, we have the maximum we can possibly hold in the sporting club,” Mrs Kelly said.
“We’ve had three years of drought, then last year we finished with bumper crop and everything good, and this is such a positive; it’s so nice we’re being visited by so many towns.”
Mrs Kelly said she was passionate about the showgirl competition, as it opened so many doors for the winners.
“I hope there’s a zone 4 girl on the front page of The Land; I would love one of my zone 4 girls to win in Sydney,” she said.
“I’ve been doing this for about five years and I’ve had two girls get second in Sydney – which I was so excited about – so we’re due for a winner.”
