NSW police will mark “coffee with a cop” on Thursday in bid to build community relations between officers and local residents.
The day has a theme of “we are you” and New England Inspector Roger Best said every single officer was part of their community.
“We work here, but we also live here, we have families here, we play sport here or socialise in our towns, so we are part of the community,” he said.
“That’s why we want local residents to work with us, because we are here to help them and make our community a safer place for everyone.
“We want the community to come and have a chat with us, tell us some of their concerns or what they would like to see and it’s our shout for a coffee.”
In Tamworth, police will have tea and coffee on offer out the front of the Tamworth station in Fitzroy St between 10am and 11.30am.
In Gunnedah, officers will be available for a chat over coffee at the Gunnedah Shire Band Hall in South St between 10 and 11.30am.
In Armidale, New England police will be on hand for a coffee with community members at Prue and Olive in Moore St, across from the courthouse, between 10 and 11.30am.
Barwon police have already hosted one session in Narrabri on Wednesday and will be in Relaxing Cafe in Moree on Thursday morning between 10 and 11am.
