While Opal cards can’t be used on the local public transport network, Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson said the cards would make the journey to Sydney much smoother.
“We found people from the country were going to Sydney and were unable to get on public transport without an Opal card,” he said.
“We should not be disadvantaged in regional NSW just because we live out here.
“Now when you get to Sydney, you’ll be able to get on public transport and travel around the city like everyone else.” Eventually, Mr Anderson would like to see Opal cards rolled out across the regional NSW rail network.
