Homes were destroyed and stock was lost when an out-of-control bushfire tore through 55,000 hectares of land around the Dunedoo and Cassilis areas last week. 

Calala Rotary spent the weekend fundraising for those left with nothing, by hosting Sunday’s Peel Street Markets for a good cause. 

Members marched up and down the street with buckets calling for cash donations, while the stallholder fees went directly to the appeal. 

“In a lot of cases, people are very sympathetic to the causes, but don’t know what to do about it,” Rotarian John Robinson said.

“This is letting the public be part of it. People are more than happy to throw $2 into a bucket.”

The money will be forwarded to Rotary clubs in fire-affected towns.

“If we can get $100 a bucket, that’s $600,” Mr Robinson said. “More donations can also be made at the Calala markets next Saturday.”
