Armidale cycling star Sam Jenner has been signed by the Mitchelton-SCOTT team.
Jenner, 19, was announced on Thursday as one of four talents to ink professional deals with the affiliated team of Orica-SCOTT, Australia’s premier cycling outfit.
The New England product, who won the national under-23 road racing championship last month, could not hide his delight at joining the Orica family.
“I’m excited to be joining the team and really happy to be part of what will be a very strong team,” Jenner said.
“I am also looking forward to bringing across the national stripes and the results we can achieve as a team in 2017.”
Jenner has been joined on the list of Mitchelton-SCOTT fresh faces by Lucas Hamilton, Jai Hindley and Michael Storer.
The quartet raced together in Europe in 2016 for the Australian WorldTour Academy Team and are widely regarded as the next wave of the country’s general classification talent.
Mitchelton-SCOTT head sport director James Victor had a challenging task in selecting the next waves of rider signings.
“Finalising the line-up for our European and Chinese campaign was difficult with the talent that has been witnessed in Australia’s under-23 ranks,” Victor said.
“This team will head to Europe with enduring confidence in their individual and cohesive abilities.
“It will only benefit Mitchelton-SCOTT for 2017 and highlights the invaluable, ongoing support from Gerry Ryan in developing Australia’s road cycling talent.”
