With no sign of Queen B, it was her five-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, who stole the show in a Prince-inspired, baby pink, Gucci pantsuit complete with a ruffle neck shirt inside the Staples Centre in Los Angeles. The pint-sized fashionista accessorised with a silver neck brooch, matching pink manicure and a cat-shaped handbag.

Sitting on her father Jay Z's knee, she showed off the look that sent social media into overdrive while she waited for her mother to perform.

Metallic

Like the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards, the Grammys red carpet was filled with various shades of metallics.

Stealing the metallics crown was Blue Ivy's aunt Solange in a one-shouldered, pleated, golden Gucci creation with a thigh-high split.

Katy Perry made a few worst dressed galleries but not ours, because beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The newly bleached blonde Roar singer opted for a champagne-hued Tom Ford, sequined polo-neck and ombre feathered skirt that gave off a slightly robotic feel.

We're not sure why Heidi Klum was at the Grammys, but the model looked chic in a very short silver Philipp Plein dress.

Colour... kind of

Kudos to Adele for shunning her go-to black for some khaki green in a long-sleeved, Givenchy couture gown.

Orange is the new black for Rihanna, aka Bad Gal Riri, who arrived fashionably late (while the show had already started) in a jaw-dropping Armani Privé embroidered tangerine top and black plissé skirt.

(Not seen below: Her diamond encrusted hip flask that she sipped on throughout the night.)

Australian model Nicole Trunfio looked perfectly radiant in a maroon, lace Zuhair Murad creation - cinched in at the waist - to accompany husband Gary Clark Jr on the red carpet.

She looked like she skipped on underwear, which is just as well, because she told Fairfax Media the blues musician is not a fan.

Political statements

With US President Donald Trump currently dividing the world, there were bound to be at least one political statement on the red carpet - cue singer Joy Villa, aka Princess Trump.

She initially rocked up in a white cape, which she later whipped off to reveal a form-fitting red, white, and blue emblazoned gown with Trump's signature slogan: "Make America great again."

The creatively dressed

There's not much of Lady Gaga's ensemble to critique, to be fair.

Fresh from her much-loved Super Bowl performance, the Bad Romance singer showed off her brand new, full-back tattoo of a moth in flight (a tribute to Metallica, who she is performing with at the show) in a backless, frontless black pleather top with fringe-sleeved pom poms (that just about covered her modesty). She completed the look with short-shorts, matching thigh-high boots, aviators and a chain belt.

Some likened the look to a "dominatrix cheerleader," which sounds about right.

Singer Girl Crush said it was always a "dream" to wear a ball pit dress, so she did.

Well, it's one way to get noticed at an event where Adele and a pregnant Beyonce are also in attendance.

Ferrero Rocher or CeeLo Green? The singer wore all of the gold he could find and nobody knows why.

He could have gone in the metallics category (see above), but he was not worthy.
