The demolition of one of Tamworth’s historic buildings, the old BWS bottle shop, is almost complete after the last of the walls were torn down.
Demolition crews have been braving the heat to knock down the two-level brick building on the corner of Brisbane and Dowe streets to make way for a $5.8 million expansion to the CH on Peel hotel.
The demolition started in the first week of November when crews removed the internal window frames and floor boards, and last week saw the last of the four walls demolished.
Once it is complete, the new building will boast five storeys.
There will be two levels of underground parking as well as 33 hotel rooms set over two levels with a new entrance lobby and a reception area, as well as unit for a hotel manager, two penthouse apartments and a garden terrace.
Constructions crews will begin work in the coming months with the build anticipated to be finished by the end of 2017.
