Bicycle Central on Marsh was examined by specialist forensic officers on Thursday after a lone offender forced his way in in the early hours of Thursday morning.
New England Acting Inspector John Walkowiak said police had been reviewing CCTV footage from the area.
“The male offender forced entry through the front door and stole five bikes,” he said.
“Four of which have been recovered by police.”
The thief jemmied open the front door to gain entry and then stole five bikes from the shop front.
Officers were patrolling the area and discovered four of the five bikes in the nearby fields at Wicklow Oval.
“A Norco 250 model which is a silver bike with purple handlebars remains outstanding,” Acting Inspector Walkowiak said.
“Police are appealing for any information from the community on the break-and-enter, and we would urge anyone who witnessed any activity in those early hours to contact Armidale police on 6771 0699.”
