The Tamworth venue was the venue for a swimming extravaganza, which commenced with the Speedo Sprints on Saturday morning before the piece de resistance took in the afternoon session and best part of Sunday.
Swimmers from 22 clubs across the region lined-up in a total of 118 different events, encompassing the four disciplines – freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly – along with the popular medley.
360 Scully Park president Peter Ryan said the Area Championships stood out as a highlight on the local swimming calendar.
“We had 170 entrants in the Speedo Sprints (for kids 7-11 years of age) and 250 entrants across 1500 events in the Long Course Area Championships,” Ryan said.
“The competition was fantastic, we had a lot of kids produce PBs (personal-best times) and qualify for the NSW Country Championships at Homebush from February 24-26, including 10 swimmers from our club – the best result for quite a long time.”
