The campuses combined to welcome the new headmaster, and his wife Julie, with a ceremony at William Cowper where Mr Smith introduced himself and told of his vision to keep the school performing before finishing with a Mexican wave across the hall.
Mr Smith was born in Moree and attended both Uralla and West Tamworth public schools before heading to Tamworth High for six years and is now relishing the opportunity to once again call Tamworth home after stints at Barker College, The Kings School and St Andrews Cathedral in Sydney.
“St Andrews was a nine storey building in the city so it is a big change and a nice change,” Mr Smith said.
“I already knew the school really well and the job fits me and my family well.”
The new principal hopes to build on the 98 years of history Calrossy has in the region and believes that as the world changes so must the education system and schools.
“There has been and will continue to be big changes, especially around science and technology,” Mr Smith said.
“It is not just about teachers and students it is about education in society – equipping students to live in the real world.”
“I want to make whole people and good citizens.”
