Last year the region hit 40 days straight of maximum temperatures above 30 degrees, set between February and March, although Monday marked 48 in a row above 30 and with no respite in sight it could be an even longer February.
It only took 16 days for the city to equal the average of ten days above 35 degrees for the month of January, and now as we say goodbye to the first month we look like equaling the record of 20 days set in 2006 and then matched in 2013.
Bureau of Meteorology climatologist Acacia Pepler has forecast that the hot and dry conditions will continue through to at least March.
