The plea comes on the back of a breakout of a highly-fatal feline panleucopaenia (FP) in Gunnedah, prompting the RSPCA branch into lock-down with no cats or kittens coming in or out for six weeks.
Heaven Can Wait animal shelter vice president Amber Johnston said she hasn’t seen a case in Tamworth yet, but stressed the need to vaccinate.

“It’s so far, so good in Tamworth,” Mrs Johnston said.
“It can have a very heavy impact.”
The Heaven Can Wait vice-president said there’s “more hype” around getting pets vaccinated at this time of year, but emphasised it was a year-round issue.
Mrs Johnston didn’t believe Tamworth and Gunnedah were hot-spots parvovirus and said vets across the region were dealing with the disease.
The Tamworth shelter has been flat-out with a lot of pets surrendered after Christmas, however Mrs Johnston said there has been a positive shift in attitudes toward re-homing pets.
“People are now coming to rescues more and more,” Mrs Johnston said.
