As festival virgin, it was another jam-packed weekend, covering the bucking bull action of the rodeo on Friday to the Golden Guitars red carpet on Saturday.
Both may have been marquee events on the program, but it will be the everyday atmosphere of the festival – and the characters it attracts – that I will remember most about my first time.
From hearing every musical genre under the sun as you trail down the busking mecca of Peel Street, to meeting campers from as far as the Kimberley and others whose lives on the road are dictated only by what show they’re playing next – there’s nothing quite like TCMF.
The 45th festival came to a close with a final concert at Toyota Park.
Star Maker Rachael Fahim, busking champion Tim Scanlan and plenty of other winners and grinners from the 10-day party took to the stage as the city – and its 50,000 visitors – said a final goodbye.
They say you’ll remember your first time for the rest of your life.
Never have truer words been spoken. I can’t wait to see what next year’s festival holds.
But for now, it’s time to hang up the newly-christened boots – until next year.
