From swampy dark blues and spine chilling harmonica from powerhouse Roshani, to the Celtic-tinged stylings of “former one-man band” Tim Scanlan, it was the show that had a slice of everything.
In the end, the crown went to Tim Scanlan – a one-man band with a unique sound. Tim described himself as a “former one-man band” when he introduced a slide-digeridoo-playing offsider, bringing a uniquely Aussie touch to Scanlan’s thumping Irish folk sound.
Western Australian line-up Kimberley Gold said they would put their small town on the map for all the right reasons – and boy, did they deliver. From a bop-along country tune to shaking 60s rock, the rockers from WA had the crowd at Bicentennial Park on its feet.
They were named people’s choice.
Former Armidale local Hester Fraser, the granddaughter of former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser, claimed second place with a song she said aimed to call attention to mental illness.
“Sometimes the quietest of us are the ones suffering the most,” she said.
Bone rattling blues from former X Factor contestant Roshani kept the tension high through the night. She and her steel-guitar-rocking partner claimed third place.
