Fighter Pilot Adventure Flights of Brisbane, is bringing the experience to Gunnedah, with a North American P51 Mustang available for flights.

“The plane is credited with having destroyed 4950 enemy aircraft and was pivotal in the allies securing air superiority in both Europe and the Pacific during WW2,” Fighter Pilot Adventure Flights said.

“This fighter embodied speed, manoeuvrability and range, combined characteristics unique in the class of aircraft it shared including the Spitfire, Messerschmitt 109, Focke-Wulf, Yakovlev Yak-3 and Zero. This plane is one of the few flying examples in the world and is arguably the best having only recently completing a complete restoration.”

The experience begins with a full operation briefing by flight crew, followed by fitting of a flight suit and strapping into the plane for take-off.

The adventure flight promises some classic “dog fight” manoeuvres, which may include loops, barrel rolls, half Cubans and wing-overs for the adrenaline lovers or classic aviation fans can opt for a smooth  flight to experience the sights and sounds from the war-time aircraft.

The flight time is 20 minutes, but organisers say to allow an hour for the full experience. Flight upgrades will be available on the day.

“Imagine while you’re having the time of your life, your family and friends can relax at the Gunnedah Aero Club and enjoy the sights and sounds,” Fighter Pilot Adventure Flights said.

“They will feel as though they are in an original WW2 operation center and will witness first hand your engine start, take-off manoeuvring and landing, truly becoming part of the experience.”

After the flight, participants are invited to join pilots for a debrief on the flight and to take photographs with the aircraft.

Flights are by appointment only for Saturday, January 28 and Sunday, January 29.
