The singer songwriter will perform Back to Broken Hill on Friday, January 27 at 5pm at Wests’ League Club.
It’s O’Donovan’s first solo show at the festival, after supporting partner Beccy Cole during her festival gigs for the last few years.
O’Donovan has been busy writing new material and says she’s excited about the gig and getting to know her audience.
“This is my first solo show,” O’Donovan said.
“For the last three years I’ve been doing the support set at Beccy Cole’s show and I decided to do my own show.
“I’ve written a whole lot of new tunes and some old tunes are already written, because I come from a jazz and cabaret background it’s good blend of cabaret and country.
“I guess I’m influenced by some jazz cords here and there and those elements are in the actual music writing.”
O’Donovan said the concert would include some story telling, she’s written material about the places she’s been, life experiences and characters she’s met out and about.
“Because it’s singer songwriter stuff, lots of songs from my life – talking about growing up in Broken Hill it definitely has that country flavor to it,” she said.
“Certainly that instrumentation with the guitars and things like that – it’s going to be like a soft grass approach.
“I’ve got a couple of albums already but they are probably more on the Jazz side but these new songs that I’m doing for this show will be on my new album which is more country influenced.
“I’m really looking forward to it, it’s selling really well as the moment and I’m really happy about that.
“I’m just hoping to give people a great time aswell, I love to have a chat with everyone and present an honest show about my life and the things that I’ve experienced and witnessed and some of the characters I’ve met and unique parts of living in a country town.”
