A man has been taken to hospital in a critical condition after he was hit by a van in Sydney's CBD on Friday morning.

Witnesses rushed to the man's aid after he was hit on Elizabeth Street, near the intersection of Liverpool Street, just after 11am.
When emergency services arrived, they found the bloodied man lying on the road with serious injuries.

He was treated by paramedics before he was taken to St Vincent's Hospital.
The hospital said he was in a critical condition in intensive care on Friday afternoon.
Police officers from Sydney Local Area Command attended the scene and will investigate the crash.
The driver stopped immediately afterwards, witnesses said. He was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
Photographs from the scene showed a van stopped on the side of the road with a dent above its left headlight.
