Population Health’s Dr Peter Massey says the number one safety concern this year is the heat.
“January is always a hot month in Tamworth so a festival checklist should include sun screen, light long sleeved clothing, hats and water bottles,” Dr Massey said.
“There’s an increased risk of sunburn, dehydration and sun stroke so keep drinking water handy.”
The department is also reminding people to wear appropriate foot wear, with Emergency treating people with blistered feet every festival, while personal hygiene is also important in crowded areas to prevent the spread of illness.
