Exemption, fresh from running midfield in the race dominated by Paddy Cunningham last Saturday, backs up in the space of the week for the $30,000 Hurricane Fall Country Music Cup (1400m).
Trained at Bendemeer by Jane Clement, the son of Ad Valorem carries the mantle of top-weight in the feature on the strength of his form in tougher races than today’s assignment.
Exemption, a three-time race winner, caught the eye when third to Burning Energy in December’s Mudgee Cup (1600m), but has followed up with consecutive seventh place finishes.
Clement has booked Rachael Murray to partner Exemption from the inside barrier, which should suit the noted on-pacer in a race boasting an abundance of speed.
One horse sure to be not far away is Inverell galloper Cavitation.
Trainer Bill Perrett has enjoyed a fine run with his $3500 bargain buy, who has recouped more than $15,000 in three starts since joining the stable for owner, his son Luke.
Cavitation landed the cash as a $26 chance at Armidale two starts back before a game runner-up effort to Safety Peg over a mile in a Benchmark 65 Handicap on Inverell Cup Day.
“I’m confident he’s a big chance,” Perrett told The Leader.
“He gave 5.5kg to the winner last time and ran a huge race.
“The drop back from 1600m to 1400m should not be a problem, this looks a race that suits him.”
Perrett, 55, who trains a team of three, is in a rich vein of form with Arlis saluting at $19 last week at Glen Innes.
“We’ve had a good run and hopefully that will continue for us,” he said.
“I’ve got a good opinion of the horse, he’s a tough, big fella.”
Perrett has booked Matt McGuren to partner Cavitation from what the horseman declared is an alley his charge can capitalise upon.
“The race looks like it has plenty of speed, so from two, he should be able to sit just in behind them and get a split at the top of the straight.”
Exciting Tamworth galloper Dan Roy, Coming In Hot, Snappy One and Flaming Commodity are the other horses likely in the firing line early.
With the forecast of showers and the track already rated a Soft 5, the connections of Snappy One would be banking on more rain.
Snappy One’s form at 1400m is highlighted by a blistering five-length win in a Highway Handicap at Rosehill last August when he led from go to whoa on a Heavy 10 surface.
