The competition will now see just three teams in Pool A, while Pool B will still have four as Tamworth and Armidale field two sides, while Narrabri, Moree and hosts Gunnedah have one each.
The new schedule will see the two Tamworth sides head different directions on Friday night as Tamworth 2 head to the Sportsground for a clash with Armidale 1, while Tamworth 1 go to Gunnedah’s Kitchener Park and Narrabri host Moree.
The sides will then all head to Gunnedah for a full day of action across two fields on Saturday with the first matches kicking off at 8am and the final being played at 8pm that night, instead of the originally scheduled Sunday final.
Gunnedah all rounder Troy Sands said that while it was really disappointing that Inverell pulled the pin the hosts can’t wait to get into the short form showdown with the other associations.
“Tamworth have named two strong looking sides but we are looking pretty good as well,” Sands said.
“Only a couple of players are unavailable so we have been able to name a squad that bats all the way down – which is a nice change.”
Tamworth have named two strong and well balanced side that should both go deep into the competition on form.
The 1s will be lead by Tom Groth and boast a big hitting top order that includes Brad Smith and the in form Rixon brothers Michael and Brendan, while Ben Middlebrook will lead an equally destructive Tamworth 2.
