As the city faces a shortage of skilled professionals – with several Tamworth businesses revealing they have advertised positions for skilled jobs without receiving a single resume – The Leader has launched the #OurTamworth campaign to highlight what we love most about our city.
A trailblazing survey has since found that people would be willing to move to Tamworth for a job in health, education or a trade.
More than 640 people responded to The Leader’s survey, with 85 per cent saying they would move to Tamworth for a job, however 38 per cent indicated it would depend on what the job was.
If jobs are being advertised across the country and people have indicated they are willing to move to Tamworth, then where are they?
It seems there is a missing link in the chain that could see visitors become residents.
There’s a difference between those who are inside and see what it’s like and those outside who have a perception of what it is.
Tamworth has much to be proud of, and it fair exceeds being defined by country music.
When people move to Tamworth, one of the state’s fastest-growing regional centres, they love it.
But it’s getting people here that is the challenge.
The Leader asked what Tamworth needed to do to attract more people to the city – 20 per cent of respondents said more recreation options, while 19 per cent said more tertiary education options.
But it begins with shining the spotlight on the city – not just during Country Music Festival – but for all of its strengths.
We’ve recently had a dining boom, with a swag of eateries and restaurants opening their doors, we have good schools, a new hospital and plans are in the works for exceptional sporting facilities.
All these factors are huge carrots in the eyes of would-be residents weighing up a tree change.
Tamworth Regional Council is actively trying to attract people from our capital cities through the Evocities campaign.
But it is up to all of us to showcase our city. The jobs are there and people are willing to move here – let’s make it happen.
Tag your photos on your Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, with #OurTamworth to show everybody why you love this city.
