The country star is kicking off her festival schedule right from the very beginning – with a not-to-miss show at the Post Office Hotel in Tamworth’s CBD from 2pm on Friday.
Kirby will be supported by local musicians Jimmy Craz and Scott McIlveen for the event which has been hailed as one of the perfect ways for fans to kick off 10-days of country action. This year Kirby will join icon Adam Brand on tour and will perform alongside him at his festival shows as the party ambassador brings the festival to life.
Late last year Kirby received an early Christmas present with the news she was handpicked by the man himself and will embark on Brand’s 2017 National “Get on Your Feet” tour.
Impressed by Kirby’s boldness, creativity and incredible voice, Brand saw her as the perfect fit for his new tour.
After becoming a finalist in the 2016 WA Music Awards and 2016 People’s Choice Awards for her debut video Fallen Solider, Kirby’s success followed a string of performances in high profile venues including the Gympie Muster and 2016 Lights on the Hill.
Kirby said she is excited to be joining Adam Brand on his big tour but is a bit worried about her fitness levels.
“Have you seen how much he jumps around on stage? I am really going to have to keep up,” she said.
“I have looked up to Adam from am early age. He is an inspiration, both personally and professionally and I can’t wait to hit the road with him and his amazing band next year.” Kirby described the call up as the “best Christmas present ever.”
“We had it in the pipeline, he kind of mentioned it to me a couple of months back and he’d been following me on Facebook ever since the last Tamworth Festival,” she said.
“It came about over the last couple of months, I thought it was too good to be true and then it just happened – it was a whirl wind of a roller coaster.”
Kirby’s latest single, Deceiving Eyes has had more than 12,500 on Youtube – an incredible feat for an independent Australian artist.
A first in Australia, the video allows the viewer to choose their ending.
The single and video clip is based on the story of Gemma's younger sister, who lost her way a couple of years ago, falling victim to the drug - ice. The powerful video clip shows the destruction the drug can cause to individuals and their families, has struck a chord with many including local Governments and the Australian Anti-ice Campaign - who have asked her to come on board as an official regional ambassador.
