Without a win this season, Mornington tallied 103 at Kitchener Park before having the Kookaburras 7-46, 8-64 and 9-82, but the last-placed team couldn’t deliver the knockout blow as both teams were below full strength.
Ben Maher (35), Ben Hennessy (29) and Pat Maher (19) were the best of Mornington’s batsmen while five Kookaburras bowlers took at least one wicket each.
Hennessy went on to claim 5-23 while Callum Hayne captured 2-16 as the Kookaburras seemed headed for defeat.
Cameron Milne’s 46 not out helped the Kookaburras sneak home, although he was dropped with the score at 9-98.
It would have been unfair to single out that one dropped catch, considering there were four dropped catches in the first innings.
At Wolseley Park, six Court House batsmen registered double figures as the ladder leaders made 8-138 in their 40 overs before dismissing the second-placed Albion for 74.
Albion’s Jamie Eveleigh claimed a hat-trick in his 4-23, but it was somewhat overshadowed as Farran Lamb (4-7) and Matt Brady (4-31) cut a swathe through Albion’s batting.
