The ‘come and try’ event at Tamworth’s AELEC on January 24 will allow children eight years and over to spend the day trying out campdrafting and rodeo events.
ABCRA spokeswoman Nicky Moss-Smith said there was capacity for 150 kids to take part all at once, rotating through activity stations in age groups of about 10 children.
She said the event had been running for about five years and had been a big hit.
“It was an ABCRA initiative which was enthusiastically embraced by the members and competitors, who we rely heavily on to volunteer and help on the day,” Mrs Moss-Smith said.
“The kids just love it; they have a fantastic time because they get to try out all these different things.
“There are some kids that come who have been to rodeos and that before – competed in events – but most of them are just city kids who want to come and have a go.”
Mrs Moss-Smith said dummies would be used instead of livestock, and there would be a Lions club sausage sizzle. Mavericks Western Wear and Cinch Jeans are the main sponsors of the event.
The event is free but bookings are essential on 6766 5863.
“We will also be at the TFSS Evening in the Park on the 21st of January at Toyota Park from approximately 5-7pm with our roping dummy for kids to have a go at roping,” she said.
The ABCRA will also hold the Ironman 4x4 ABCRA National Finals Junior Rodeo on January 24-25 and the senior event from January 26-28.
The Ironman 4x4 ABCRA National Finals Campdraft will be on January 27-28.
