From Top 10 success on the ARIA charts for his latest album Live as One, to the release of his latest single, Just Like Magic, in December - 2016 was a year in which Barnes’ career went from strength to strength.
He’s looking forward to the festival, and said he’s been told to expect plenty of excitement and good times over the 10 days.
“I’ve locked in some really good shows while I’m there,” he said.
“I’m playing with another artist, Ben Ransom, and then jumping on the back of a tour with McKenna Faith, an American artist. I am playing one date in Tamworth with her so it’s going to be great.
“When it comes to Tamworth I want to make the most of it. It’s my first time and I’m hoping to meet as many people and say ‘g’day’ to as many folks as I can.
“I am still on the up and up, people are still getting to know me in the country scene so I want to meet as many people as I can.”
Barnes said 2016 was “over and above” his expectations and he hopes this year will kick off the same way with his festival performances.
“I’d probably bring a new twist to country music and modern country sound,” he said.
“It’s an exciting show and I hope that the songs I play are songs people enjoy with, I guess, a bit of a modern twist.”
