BRACE yourselves, summer is coming, with a very hot week forecast for the New England North West.

The mercury is tipped to hit 37 degrees in Tamworth on Monday, and the top temperatures will stay there until the weekend, when it could climb to 39.

The long-term average for maximum Tamworth temperatures in January is 32 degrees, and while it’ll be a scorcher this week, we’re way off the hottest-ever day for the first month of the year, with a 45 degree day recorded in 2014.

The sweltering week comes on the back of a very wet start to 2017, with 68mm already in the gauges, passing the long-term average of 60.6mm for the month of January.

Moree is tipped to have three-consecutive days over 40 degrees this week, with Thursday’s maximum, a blistering 42 degrees, according to Elders Weather.

While Gunnedah is predicted to pass 40 degrees on Thursday and Friday this week.

It will be somewhat milder on the Tablelands, with thermometers in Armidale topping-out at 32 degrees.
