The recent exciting news that Harness Racing NSW have purchased the Tamworth Showground was pleasing news to many trainers as they now have a permanent “home” to race and train at.
It is certainly generating a lot of interest from interstate trainers and there are plenty of improvements to come once the sale is finalised on February 1.

Hallsville trainer Barry Schipp enjoyed the win of Tact Maria at Tamworth recently with the mare breaking through for her first win and giving Barry his first win as a trainer in 12 long years.
Skilfully handled by Michael Grima, Tact Maria is starting to put it all together for Barry who is enjoying his retirement.

Tonight will see the 53rd running of the Maitland Inter City Pace.
This race has stood the test of time and has even been around longer than the Miracle Mile which will celebrate its 50th running in February at Menangle.
This year the North West can claim a “connection” with Captain Rockey which is trained by David Grant at Lochinvar.
Grant has two uncles residing in Manilla – trainer Toby Grant, who is still involved in the sport, and another uncle Robert Gardner.
Captain Rockey is a strong contender – even if he has drawn barrier 10 – as of his seven career wins four have been on the Maitland Paceway.
The $30,000 Group 3 Final at Maitland Paceway will go at 9.33pm tonight.
-----------
Tamworth HRC will host an eight-race program this Sunday evening with the first race set down for 6pm - a “family fun night” is planned providing plenty of action for the kids as well.
January is the big racing month for Tamworth, so make sure you mark your calendars.
- Wednesday January 18
