The primarily Filipino competition has eight teams and 82 registered players, including a team from Scone who play in a ten week league on Saturday mornings under organiser Pastor Ric Orbe.
The festival atmosphere saw music pumping and live commentary as a big crowd took in all the action.
“The final started very tightly and agressively and the score was really close,” Orbe said.
Day took a five point lead into halftime before Jaime Maputi hit three three pointers to pull away before the MVP went on a scoring frenzy to finish with 33 for the match as the Day shift workers ran away with not only the trophy but also bragging rights at work for the next 12 months.
Following the match the crowd moved on to the Liberty Church for a presentation and celebration.
“It was a wonderful game and a wonderful day,” Pastor Orbe said.
“The Day guys de-throned the Night guys.”
Orbe is hoping to return even bigger and better next year with a women’s volleyball league as well.
