One of those came in the 16 A division where Nem Speed defeated The Lightning 15-8.
“The Lightning, I don’t think they have lost a game all season, so that was a good result for Nem Speed,” Tamworth Junior Oztag convenor Katrina Davis said.
It was a double strike for Lightning-named sides, with Carinya Lightning pipped 11-10 by Calrossy/Farrer Yellow in the 14 C decider after they had led most of the game and held a big lead at half-time.
More than 20 teams took part in the competition, with the 16s seeing a record number of teams enter.
“It’s nice to see the junior players progress through the years,” Davis said.
She said it was also great to see the girls playing a major role in a lot of the games.
“The 16 B’s grand final that Gotcha won the girls were amazing,” she said.
Bowdo’s Slashers won that 12-6. It was a very credible effort from the runners-up, who are actually an U14s team and had one player – Abbey Bowden – who is only 12. Another of their players – Jada Taylor (14) also played in the successful Nem Speed team.
Calrossy Blue (14A) and Carinya Thunder (16C) won the other two games with the Thunder blowing away the THS Tornadoes 17-7 and the Blue getting over The Dominators 11-9.
The primary finals will be played on Wednesday with games starting at 5pm.
