Tamworth has nudged 40 degrees for the past few days, with the mercury hitting a top of 39 on Monday.
Locals did what they could to beat the heat, devouring ice creams mid-swims at watering holes across the city and wider region. But the heat isn’t likely to stop anytime soon as Tuesday hits a high of 36 degrees.
The onset of summer has also been marked by a string of thunderstorms.
A severe thunderstorm lashed Tamworth late Monday afternoon, with an onslaught of hail and damaging winds uprooting trees, downing power poles and blowing out building windows.
There is a chance of another thunderstorm developing on Tuesday, with rain 80 per cent likely.
We will see consecutive above-30 degree days for the rest of the week. But if you think that’s bad, spare a thought for Gunnedah. The town almost came to a standstill on the weekend, as temperatures hit 39 degrees on Saturday and 40 on Sunday.
