It is Sargent Doakes’ first run back in this new preparation for the Scone gelding and while he will run well fresh Rod Northam believes it could be a little short for him.
Big Money also had his first run back this prep when he just missed a place behind Most Important in the $200,000 Group 3 George Moore Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Stablemate Don’t Doubt Her didn’t have the chance to continue her career when her race, the ninth and last on the program, was abandoned due to a major storm that had earlier hit Toowoomba.
“He ran well,” Northam said. He had a big weight first up and boxed on well. He’ll be a lot better for that run and might go around in a fortnight in the Razor Sharp in Sydney.”
Don’t Doubt Her might also race the same day in a Class 2 Highway Handicap on the same program, he said as he headed back to Scone on a nine and half hour float trip.
Today he floats Sargent Doakes to Tamworth for the $20,000 FSDP Open, a 1000m scamper and feature race on an eight-race TAB card.
The son of I Am Invincible has won four of his 14 starts and more than $118,000 in prizemoney as well as $35,000 in BOBS bonuses.
“He’ll be nice and fresh,” Northam said. He does like a good surface and will get that at Tamworth. I expect him to run okay.”
