FlyPelican has announced a plan to expand its daily direct services with a new route to Dubbo from January 30, 2017, complementing the airline's existing daily service from Canberra to Newcastle.

Canberra Airport's Managing Director, Stephen Byron, said it had been a big week with Qatar Airways announcing international flights to Doha but this latest news was "a wonderful boost for Canberra."

"When we first bought the airport we wanted to be a regional hub between NSW and northern Victoria," he said. "Like a lot of things it has taken a while but it is starting to come together."

Mr Byron said the looped service between Canberra, Dubbo and Newcastle would open up the whole state to travellers and business.

But along with complementing interstate and regional tourism to the ACT, it would connect international passengers flying with Singapore Airlines and Qatar Airways to regional NSW.

FlyPelican chief executive Paul Graham said the frequency of flights meant it would be an easy transit for international passengers to get either to Dubbo or to the Hunter region.

He said Canberra, Newcastle and Dubbo were the "most up and coming regional airports" and so it was exciting to move with them with a common goal of expansion.

The regional airline will be the only service flying the non-stop route to Dubbo and their Jetstream 32 aircraft will carry up to 19 passengers between the two cities on weekdays, with an extra return service on Mondays and Fridays.

Dubbo-bound passengers can jump on FP365 which leaves Canberra at 9.20am and touches down in Dubbo at 10.20am on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Friday. Or depart Canberra on the 5.30pm and arrive in Dubbo at 6.30pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

On the return, the FP631 takes off at 7.50am on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays for an 8:50am landing in the nation's capital, while FP634 also departs Dubbo at 4pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, reaching the gate in Canberra at 5pm.

Fares start at $139 each way, plus a credit card surcharge.
