The UnitingCare/Target Christmas Appeal for 2016 is underway and you can help to brighten someone’s Christmas, by dropping off an unwrapped gift to the Target store in Peel Street, which will be distributed to people in need in our area.
Or you can purchase a $1 bauble gift tag at the Target checkout to hang on your Christmas tree at home, or attach to your Christmas gifts. Target will donate all proceeds from bauble sales to the appeal.
One in 8 Australians – including 1 in 6 children - live in poverty.
Reverend Bill Fischer, from Tamworth City Uniting Church said, “this is why we gather for the launch of the 2016 Christmas Appeal. Right at this moment there are people agonizing in our regional community about how their family will be able to celebrate Christmas.
“They are the people who struggle to celebrate Christmas.
“As well, there are others through sudden illness, loss of jobs or other unexpected crises that are doing it tough this Christmas,” he said.
Councillor Helen Tickle represented Tamworth regional Council at the launch and thanked the volunteers from the Uniting Church that will distribute gifts and food hampers.
Target Store Manager Rodney Hazel said “Tamworth Target staff are strongly supporting the Appeal.”
Anyone requiring assistance should contact the Tamworth City Uniting Church office.
