Gunnedah went through the season undefeated as Gunnedah, Moree, West Tamworth, the North West Tennis Academy, Armidale and Inverell hosted a round each.

The victorious Gunnedah line-up on Sunday featured Jodie Moore, Emily Osmond, Andrew Osmond, Sam O’Gorman, Dale Martin and Craig Louis, and beat fellow top-two team West Tamworth 6-3 in the final round to claim the silverware.

“It was a great feeling,” Martin said with regard to winning the title in the first two years of the competition after NSW Tennis reintroduced inter-town tennis events.

“We’ve always been really proud to represent Gunnedah.”

Martin said “there’s always that rivalry, especially with Tamworth” and that the matches were competitive but played in good spirits.

The Gunnedah players “all contributed” and “really had to dig deep last weekend”, according to Martin.

“Everyone pulled together really well,” he said.

“It was probably our best win in the two years, really.”

Martin deemed that Sam O’Gorman had a really good win in a three-set match which “probably helped get us home”.

“We had a plan of the particular matches we thought we could win,” Martin said.

Andrew Osmond was gallant in defeat as he encountered Marty Russell, who accounted for Osmond in a great battle in the North West Open and Junior Championships three weeks earlier.

Martin also acknowledged Zach Martin and Gabby O’Gorman, both of whom were away for the final round but had contributed in Gunnedah’s earlier wins.

“We’ve got such good depth with our teams in Gunnedah,” Martin said.

The club will on Sunday hold its annual presentation day at the Gunnedah Services and Bowling Club. Awards to be presented include player of the year, junior and senior club championship winners, rookie of the year and Peter Percy Memorial Award for junior of the year.
