Statewide advocacy groups have asked Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) to throw their support behind a new centre and recognise the “high need” for women’s health services in the area.
The proposal was developed by advocacy group SOS Women’s Services and peak body, Women’s Health NSW.
Council unanimously backed the move at their meting on Tuesday night.
Deputy mayor and chair of the Hunter New England Health Tamworth health committee, Helen Tickle, said it was a much-needed facility.
“There is currently no other service like this in our region – it’s satisfying to see council recognise the strong support from the local community for this new initiative,” Cr Tickle said.
