Aubrey Michael Flick is being held in custody in the maximum security wing of Cessnock Correctional Centre on charges of attempted murder, assaulting a police officer and wounding with intent to murder.
Flick appeared via video link in Tamworth Local Court on Wednesday where Legal Aid solicitor Rae Parker said they had received the brief of evidence in the case.
“We have now received, as of last week, all of the medical evidence which is essential to the charge,” she told the court.
Ms Park said the public defender had been briefed to take on the case and had already had a conference with Flick on the charges.

“The prosecution has suggested a resolution,” she told the court, asking for further time.
“There are some issues in Mr Flick’s background … that need investigation.”
Ms Parker said her client had an appointment with a forensic psychologist booked.
Flick is yet to enter pleas to the three charges which stem from an incident in Coledale on August 17.
The 32-year-old is accused of attempting to kill a 38-year-old man in Sue Cr.
Police allege Flick stabbed the man, who was known to him, in the torso, shoulder, hands and leg areas.
Flick is also charged with assaulting a police officer in the execution of his duty during his arrest, shortly after the alleged stabbing.
Flick pleaded guilty in court to an unrelated malicious damage incident after damaging a door.
“He was intoxicated and he’s sorry for breaking the door,” Ms Parker told the court.
Magistrate Roger Prowse was set to sentence Flick for the malicious damage but found he was in breach of a two-year good behaviour bond he was placed on after examining his record.
Mr Prowse said the bond would need to be called up and adjourned the case for sentencing until December to marry up with his more serious charges.
Flick made no application for bail and will remain in custody until next month.
