FORMER deputy prime minister John Anderson has spoken to a crowd of nearly 80 men about the global financial crisis at Tamworth’s Trinity Church’s Breakfast for Men.
The former Gwydir MP and onetime Nationals federal leader was the guest speaker at the fourth and final breakfast of the year on Saturday.
Organiser and one of Trinity Church’s pastors, Ross Fotheringham, said they tried to get a guest speaker with a different background at each breakfast event to talk about issues that interested men.
Mr Anderson now lives on a property near Gunnedah after retiring from politics in 2005.
Despite Mr Anderson’s political background, Mr Fotheringham said their guest speaker’s speech centred on the global financial crisis. “He spoke with clarity and insight with an analysis of the issue in Europe and America and to a lesser extent, Australia,” Mr Fotheringham said.
He said Mr Anderson relayed some staggering figures and spoke about where Australia placed in the crisis.
Mr Anderson’s speech also carried a religious undertone, speaking about a moral as well as financial issue of how Australia has lost some of its heritage and traditional values.
Mr Fotheringham said Mr Anderson spoke for about 40 minutes and provided some insightful comments.
